When I started creating mods for games the average texture size was 256 X 256. I did 3D for a living and I consider blowing up textures as unprofessional or a good indication that the author does not know what they are doing. Saying 4k textures is a bit vague since many UVW unwraps can be put on a texture map and as you said they can be blown up. Does this mean all the textures got bumped up to 4K x 4K? Does this mean the textures were uplifted so it looks nicer on 4K?
